Creating an NIH Data Management and Sharing Plan

This guide presents information on the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy, which requires submission of a Data Management and Sharing Plan (DMSP) for all NIH-supported research.

Northwestern University is a subscriber of the service DMPTool.org. This resource can be accessed via SSO, using Northwestern University credentials.

From the "My Dashboard" page, click "Create Plan" to create a new data management and sharing plan.

When creating a plan, enter "National Institutes of Health" in the "Select the primary funding organization" box. This will load a plan template that includes the 6 elements required for an NIH data management and sharing plan. Once your plan is complete, you can download a PDF version to attach to your funding application.
