Visiting Galter Library / Access: 

To enter the library, you will be required to use your university-issued show a Northwestern University Wildcard or Northwestern Medicine badge. 

  • Alumni visiting the library will be required to show an alumni card and a photo ID to enter any university building on the Chicago campus and the Galter Health Sciences Library & Learning Center in particular.

Library services:

  • Ask a Librarian — Request answers to short, factual questions from Galter librarians. More in-depth research is available for a fee through our literature search service.
  • Literature Searches** —Alumni with in-depth literature or historical research needs may be charged an hourly rate for library services. Please fill out the Ask a Librarian form to request details.
  • Classes — Take classes on many topics, such as EndNote and PubMed. See the class schedule for details and call us at 312-503-8126 to register. Classes are available at no charge to alumni because of your affiliation to Northwestern University. Note: Due to licensing agreements with publishers and vendors, tools and information resources described may be accessible only to current Northwestern University affiliates (faculty, staff, and students).
  • Borrow Materials — Alumni with current addresses in the 312, 773, 224, 630, 708 and 847 area codes may borrow books at no charge from the Galter Library. Bring your alumni card to the library to have a borrowing account created for you.

**These services may be available to alumni for a fee. 

 

 

Stay connected

  • Special Collections Research — Alumni with questions relating to the use of the Library's rare books and archival materials can contact the Reference team by email or by calling (312) 503-8126 (general library number). Some research services are fee-based. Appointments are required for on-site services and access.
  • Supporting the Galter Library — Many of our alumni have given generously to support future collections and services. For information on supporting the Galter Library, please contact Director Kristi Holmes by email or contact the Library Administration office at (312) 503-8133.
