EndNote 21 for Windows

EndNote is bibliographic management software that allows users to manage citations in personal libraries and create bibliographies in a number of available journal or writing styles. This guide will help you perform basic tasks using EndNote 21 for Window

At this time, we do not recommend using Word Online CWYW.

As of Aug 2024, the plug-in is not fully functional and encounters frequent errors.

Inserting Citations into Your Paper

1. If the CWYW sidebar is not visible, click Endnote in the Word Online toolbar. Log in with your Endnote Web credentials, if prompted.

2. Place the insertion cursor after the text you are citing.

3. Browse the references in the CWYW sidebar or use the search box to find the desired citation.

4. Click the checkbox next to each desired citation, and click Insert Citation. This will add a citation placeholder into the document.

5. To format the citation and corresponding bibliography entry, click Update Citations.

Formatting Your Bibliography

Once you have inserted citations into your paper, you may at any time format or re-format your in-text citations and bibliography. 

  1. In the CWYW sidebar, click on the elipses (series of three horizontal dots) in the top right corner.
  2. Click citation style
  3. Select a citation style and click Apply Style.

Deleting Citations from Your Paper

To remove a citation, click on the in-text citation in your document. In the Endnote sidebar, click Remove Citation.
