NIH Public Access Policy

Describes the NIH Public Access Policy and compliance, including the process for obtaining PMCIDs

October 1, 2025 - Change in My Bibliography

The NCBI has announced a change in My Bibliography.

Beginning October 1, 2025, My Bibliography will use the earliest publication date in PubMed records (whether online or in print) as the publication date for 2024 NIH Public Access policy compliance, which defines the publication date as

“The date on which the Final Published Article is first made available in final, edited form, whether in print or electronic (i.e., online) format.”

Previously, My Bibliography used the latest publication date as the "official" date of publication. Investigators should be alert to this change and use the earliest date as their target for compliance with the 2024 NIH Public Access policy for depositing manuscripts to PubMed Central with no embargo period.
