Using SciENcv to Create an NIH Biosketch and Other Support Documents

This guide describes how to use the NIH's SciENcv platform to create a "Common Form" biosketch and Other Support documents

Who and why?

Completion of the NIH Biosketch is part of the “Apply for Grant Funding” Portion of the grants process overview. The biosketch allows applicants to:

  • Describe the magnitude and significance of their scientific contributions (including publications)
  • Provide detailed information about their research experience in the context of the proposed project

Biosketches are required from all senior/key personnel and other significant contributors that are applying for the grant

The NIH Biosketch Form

The NIH provides detailed instructions and samples on their website to assist you in the creation of your biosketch, as well as a notice on the changes coming. The current template is approved for use through 1/31/2026. However, the requirement for the new biosketch, generated by SciENcv, may go into effect before this date.

Tips

  • Create a "Master" biosketch in SciENcv, then use that master to generate each new sketch for each new proposal.
  • Similarly, create a "Master" Current & Pending (Other) Support form, with all your grants, then use that to populate any new C&P forms in the future, changing whatever needs to be changed for each proposal.
