Finding the Search and Link Wizard in ORCID

Finding the Search and Link Wizard in ORCID

The Search and Link Wizard is your gateway to adding works to your ORCID profile. Here’s how to find it:

  1. Log in to ORCID. If you are a delegate select "Switch to another account" at the top of the page to exercise delegate privileges and edit another user's ORCID record. (To learn how to add a delegate, click here. To learn how to act as a delegate, click here.)
  2. Scroll to the Works section and click Add.
  3. From the drop-down menu, select Search & Link
  4. Choose a wizard such as Scopus, DataCite, or CrossRef to add works.

Add Works Directly from Scopus

Follow these steps to connect your Scopus Author Profile with ORCID and add works:

  1. Log in to ORCID. If you are a delegate select "Switch to another account" at the top of the page to exercise delegate privileges and edit another user's ORCID record. (To learn how to add a delegate, click here. To learn how to act as a delegate, click here.)
  2. Scroll to the Works section and click Add.

  1. Select Search & Link, then choose Scopus from the list.

  1. Scroll down through the link wizards to Scopus - Elsevier and click on it.

  1. Authorize access to Scopus.

  1. Select all profiles that contain publications authored by the pertinent user and click on the Next button.

  1. Select the preferred name for the unique author profile from the dropdown menu, then click on the Next button.

  1. Review the listed publications and indicate which are/are not authored by the user by clicking on the X or to the left of each individual title. Then click on the Next button.

  1. Review the information in the publication list to ensure the data sent to ORCID is correct, then click on the Next button. If a publication's information is incorrect, click "Back" and eliminate that publication from the list by clicking on X.

  1. Enter the user's institutional or professional email address to send the Scopus ID to ORCID, confirm the email, then click on the Send Author ID button.

  1. Confirm permission to send the Scopus publication list to ORCID by clicking on the Send my publication list button.

  1. Once the confirmation page shows that the publication list was successfully sent to ORCID, click on Return to ORCID.

Search and Link Wizard: DataCite

Add Works Directly from DataCite

Follow these steps to connect DataCite with ORCID and add works:

  1. Log in to ORCID. If you are a delegate select "Switch to another account" at the top of the page to exercise delegate privileges and edit another user's ORCID record. (To learn how to add a delegate, click here. To learn how to act as a delegate, click here.)

  2. Scroll to the Works section of your ORCID profile and click the Add button to the right.

  3. From the drop-down menu, select Search & Link.

  4. Scroll through the available link wizards to locate DataCite and click on it.

  5. In the DataCite Profiles page that opens, click the green Get ORCID Token button to authorize updates.

  6. Click Authorize Access to complete the authorization process.

  7. The DataCite Profiles page will now display a section called ORCID Claims. Each status box indicates the following:

    • Created: Number of records successfully copied from DataCite to the ORCID profile.
    • Deleted: Number of records initially copied to ORCID but later removed from the profile.
    • Queued: This status is no longer in use. For assistance, contact support@datacite.org.
    • Failed: Number of records that could not be copied to ORCID. For help, contact support@datacite.org.

  8. Ensure that Auto-Update is enabled and click Save to finish the process.
