What is ORCID?

undefined

An ORCID iD is a universally accepted unique identifier that connects you to your research outputs and activities, making it easier to track your work and ensure you receive credit for your work. The ORCID registry is integrated into many systems used by publishers, funders, institutions, and other research-related services.

For more information, see the ORCID Overview for Researchers

Get Connected

Take a moment to connect your ORCID iD to systems at Northwestern. The entire process is quick and will enable you to take advantage of systems at Northwestern to read in data from your ORCID profile or push updates of your Northwestern data to your ORCID profile. Connecting your ORCID iD to systems at Northwestern should assist in elevating your research profile on webpages, in publication submissions, when applying for grants, and in any additional research workflow where you wish to receive credit for your efforts.

To sign up for a for an ORCID iD and/or to connect it to your NetID, follow these steps:

  1. Using the Northwestern ORCID App, there are options to either "create a new ORCID iD" or "connect your existing ORCID iD."
  2. Click on the relevant button and complete the prompts that follow.
  3. If you already have an ORCID iD and are logged into ORCID, you will be directed to a "Success" screen to confirm your NetID connection.

Are you unsure if you have an ORCID iD?
Search ORCID using your name here.
If you find your ORCID iD, then connect your ORCID iD with your NetID here.
If you don’t find your ORCID iD, then create a new ORCID iD here.
If you find an ORCID iD and you are unsure if its yours, then try connecting to your [possibly] existing ORCID iD here.

Did you forget your ORCID record password?
Don’t worry, you can reset your password during the sign in process by clicking on the “Reset it here” link. If you don’t receive a password reset email, then you either don’t have an ORCID iD, or you didn’t use your Northwestern email to sign up for it. Check your other email accounts just to be sure.

You can't find the password reset email sent by ORCID? Or, you no longer have access to that email address.
If you can’t find the password reset email, it could mean that you haven’t signed up for an ORCID iD – create a new ORCID iD here. Or it could mean you no longer have access to the email address you used to sign up for your ORCID iD – please submit a ticket with ORCID here
